As children, we receive vaccinations for a variety of diseases (such as measles and mumps).  These vaccinations protect us as we grow up, supporting us to have on-going good health into later life.

The partnership behind this project, consider that a similar approach can be taken in a social context.

Social Vaccinations is the innovative concept of bite sized non formal and informal learning that helps the individual to cope with the challenges of modern day life.

The project will create a range of bite sized Social Vaccination training and learning materials for practitioners working with socially excluded groups, which combined provide practical holistic support for the individual.  By stealth, using informal learning the individual (and often their partner and family) will develop skills and resilience to cope with life in a stronger more positive way. This will reduce their dependency on individual member states, reduce the financial cost of social exclusion and foster safer communities, support the development of employability (challenging generational unemployment) and encourage participation of whole families in lifelong learning.

Social Vaccinations will be developed to be used with a wide range of target groups across the EU including: young people (not in employment, education or training), lone parents, offenders, short and long term unemployed, abused women and men, culturally diverse or sexually excluded groups, Roma and older people facing exclusion.
